Our story

True Peace has gathered students to practise mindfulness on the U of T campus since 2008. We're the student chapter of True Peace Toronto, a community of practitioners in the Plum Village tradition.

What began as a small circle of students looking for a little stillness in a busy term has continued, week after week, ever since — open to anyone who wants to sit with us.

We keep things student-run and student-paced, while staying connected to the broader sangha for retreats, days of mindfulness, and guidance.

Our tradition

Our practice follows the mindfulness teachings of the Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village community — gentle, practical, and open to people of every background and belief.

Mindfulness here simply means being aware and awake to the present moment: touching life deeply as we sit, walk, breathe, and listen together. Nothing about it asks you to be religious or experienced — only curious.
